The subject of referring brings fear to most people. It is because we don’t know the rules? Is it because we fear from players having a go at the referees? What ever the case may be, fear should not be a factor. Any referring is a challenge. Referring should be considered as Fun. If you don’t know the rules, learn it. If you fear to referee, challenge yourself. Learn the rules, challenge yourself and you will own the game.

For players who think they know the rules better then the referees, we would like to see you involve at blowing a whistle.

Hi all,

On Sunday December 12 I am going to hold a skills and rules clinic for the staff from Mornington Peninsula Shire.  I am sure that I can fit a few people who are keen to broaden their knowledge of the rules.  I haven\'t confirmed the time, but it should start around 3pm.

Let me know if you will be attending so I can have enough handouts.

I\'m completly agree with you Miagi.

:mad:

There are always people who think they know floorball rules better than everybody. And during matches those people are always yaling and complening against referees.

But what these peoples don\'t know is that as soon as they complain, the referee will never whistle in their favour again.

Referee is a hard job, not because the game is hard to referee but because only one mistake is never forgiven by the players.

So, players just have a bit of respect to the referee and the play will be much better for all

Hey guys,

Interesting issue!!!!!

Refereeing is a challenge but if you know the rules and feel confident then other\'s will see and respect you for that.

Sorry Alain, i disagree with your opinion regarding people who complain and hence make you unfavourable against them. To me that\'s wrong because then the game is not fair and referrieng will be one sided.

Remember, referee\'s have to be as neutral as possible and at the same time take control of the game. If anything gets out of hand, the referee\'s set it straight. You have the authority to give penalties to player\'s who decent, complain, fight, etc.....so there\'s is no reason for you to feel threaten by player\'s.
Also don\'t forget only captain\'s of each team are allowed to speak to referee\'s....no one else.

To gain respect i think you have to gain it......  :y32b4:

Just my 2cents,
Clint

Hi all.

Having been playing in SA for the past year, with almost no rules, I think that simply having someone there \"acting\" as a Ref can have an effect on the game. Lets just say I have never been crash tackeled when playing in Vic.

However, just because the Ref\'s are there, it does not mean that some players will not try to get away with as much as they can. There are a few players who come to mind, who will use intimdation to try and change the game None are currently playing).

This is why the \"backchatting\" 2 min rule should be used if it happens, and often.

Why is it that the aforementioned players do not even try to use intimdation in games at the higher level. Because they know that there will be a penalty.

But to follow this through, if we (AFA, VFA, etc) are to reduce the intimidation, we need strong Ref\'s, and the only way is for a Mentoring program to take place. Initially it will be a burdon on the senior players (ie Clint, Dooga, Wazza when he returns..  Smiley ) but it will benefit Floorball in the long run.

Well that\'s it for now, I think it was about $3.75, including GST

Cheers,
Will

It is great to see some new faces picking up a whistle and referring a game of Floorball these days. “Be part of it”, and that is what Floorball is all about.

My suggestions to the newcomers are… if you’re not too confident of the rules but confident enough to put your hand up to blow a whistle, have quick words or two with any senior players or Mathew Benfield (Referee Development Director for VFA) before/during refereeing a game to give you some assistant. This way, not only will you be confident at referring a game, but also is it much more practical for you to comprehend the rules better.
